Nestled in the splendid mountains of Val Badia, is a municipality in the province of Bolzano which includes the towns of Picolein, Longiar and Antermoia. San Martino is considered a cradle of Ladin culture, and the Viles, one of the oldest Ladin settlements in the area, are a testament to this. Also visit the Ciastel de Tor, now a provincial museum, and the Micur de Ru cultural institute, where you can find out about the Ladins and their culture.
If you are passionate about excursions, you can climb the Sasso Putia, the immense mountain symbol of this area, with its grandeur dominates the town. A tiring experience, but certainly very worth the climb. If you love walking surrounded by unspoiled nature, the Puez Odle Natural Park and the pale mountains offer many possibilities, between pure landscapes and protected species. In winter you can practice all kinds of sports, from alpine skiing to skating, from sledging to skiing bottom. The slopes of Plan de Corones are close and easy to reach.
